DayZ first person or third person
DayZ servers choose which cameras they allow. First person only is what most people mean by 1PP: you cannot swing the camera around a corner you have not cleared. Third person, 3PP, lets you. Servers that allow both will say so. The difference changes how people hold buildings, how they drive, and which communities will even join. It is not a small checkbox.
Where the directory records it
When a server reports perspective, the dossier shows 1st, 3rd, or 1st + 3rd. The browser table shows the same value on the row when it was included with that server. It is a property of the live record, the same way the map and the mod list are. If the field is missing, the directory did not receive it. The server name is then the only hint, and names lie often enough that a missing field should stay a missing field.
Why there is no 1PP page
The public list can filter by map, country, password, official, modded, and player count. It cannot filter by perspective. A site can still hide rows in the browser after the page has loaded. That would label itself "first person servers" while only searching the fifty rows on screen. This directory does not do that. Use the server browser to get the population you want, then read the perspective column. Search by name for 1PP or 3PP when you are willing to trust hostnames. Open the dossier before you travel.
How it plays
On a first-person server, information is what your character could see. People sit in trees less casually, because the camera cannot float. Fights in houses are slower. On a third-person server, the camera is part of the fight. Corners, walls, and cars are information. Some of the largest Chernarus servers are third person on purpose. Some communities will not join them. Neither group is confused about why. They are avoiding the other rule.
Perspective does not follow the map. Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal all have both. Community maps do too. It also does not follow the vanilla flag. A modded server can be first person only. An official server can allow third person. The Chernarus page will show both in the same table. Sort by players if you want the busy ones, then keep the column that says 1st or 3rd.
If you are joining with friends, agree before you copy the address. A group that mixes the two rules will argue on the first corner, and one of you will already be on the wrong server with the wrong mods downloading. The dossier is one screen: map, mods, password, hive, and camera. Read it once.
Finding one tonight
Start from the map you can load, not from the camera. A first-person Namalsk server is useless if you do not have the mod and did not want the cold. On the map page, scan the view column. 1st is first person. 3rd is third person. 1st + 3rd means the server allows both, which in practice means people will use the third-person camera. If the column is a dash, the directory did not get the field. Open the dossier anyway. The same gap shows there, and you will also see whether the server is full, locked, or about to make you download twenty mods.
Server names often shout the rule because owners know players sort with their eyes. That works until two servers use the same slogan and only one of them enforced it. When the dossier and the name disagree, believe the dossier. It is the record the game server sent, not the sentence the owner wishes were true. If both are blank, pick a different server. There are thousands online. You do not have to be the person who finds out the camera rule after you have already geared up.
